Please don't just send me your unedited, 180 page daily journal. Yawn. I'm sorry, but the daily ranting of a tired, smelly, hurt, food-obsessed thru hiker is not what people want to read about. I may agree to publish one or two entire daily journals in each volume of the book. I'm not going to publish 25 daily journals, OK? Keep it interesting.
If your work has been published before, please include a copy of the release from the former publisher that allows for republication, or a copy of your contract for review.
All works submitted will remain the copyrighted work of the author. The act of submitting a work for consideration of publication automatically releases that work for publication in a volume - current or future - of Appalachian Trail Stories (also known as the book). Your work will not be published until you have been notified of it's acceptance, and you have acknowledged that notification. You may not retract your work after it has been accepted for publication. You may, however, reject any modifications suggested by the editor, and in effect cause your work to be rejected. This will cancel your agreement with the editor, and your work will not be published.

It is intended to protect your work, as well as our combined investment in the book, and not intended to hamstring you or prevent you from profiting from your efforts in any way.
You may send hand-written works in as well, but be forewarned, if I have to type them in myself, there will be a significant delay (depending on the length of the work) and you may be bumped from this edition of the book just because your work is not in electronic format.
