Appalachian Trail Stories, Volume I, is a cooperative book project, about hiking the Appalachian Trail. It is intended as a vehicle for allowing authors and budding authors, to publish their thoughts, visions and impressions around their hikes along the Appalachian Trail.
The project was born out of a desire I have to assist hikers with putting their writing out in front of the public. While I was working on the outline for my AT Thru-hiking book Take a Hike! One Man's Long Walk on the Appalachian Trail, I added a chapter called Trail Stories, with the goal of publishing other hiker's stories in the midst of my book. The more I thought about this, the more I believed that I should simply edit a book of other people's stories, and the more excited I became about this project.
Appalachian Trail Stories, Volume I is the result of that excitement. Here is a place for you to publish your story. If you don't think what you have to say warrants it's own book-length effort, send it in. If you just have a short story you want to write, send it in. If you have written a piece of fiction around the trail, send it in. A poem; some lines of prose; your strong images and impressions when you crossed a certain peak, or wandered under that snow covered laurel canopy; send it in.
If you would like to write for Appalachian Trail Stories, check out the author's kit, then submit your work for review. If it is accepted, you will be part of the project team. We will publish an excerpt of your work on the website, and you will be notified of any major activity that occurs until the book is published.
Some frequently asked questions are online to help you further understand the project. If any of your questions remain unanswered, please send mail to editor@trailstories.com.
